PICTURE OF THE WEEK

REEF PICTURES SPONSORED BY REEF JANITORS

THIS SET OF PICTURES SHOWS SALLY JO'S MIDDLE REEF AS IT BECOMES A SOFT CORAL BROOD STOCK REEF. THIS TANK IS NOW 11 MONTHS OLD AND IT IS FULL OF CORALS THAT GREW FROM CUTTINGS.

Many of the soft corals are in the pulse coral group that includes the woods polyp and the Xenia corals. Both of these corals thrive under the 2 - four foot long VHO bulbs. Sally Jo will soon upgrade this reef to 4- VHO bulbs and 2- four foot 40 watt bulbs. Many of the soft corals will be cut and Small polyp stony (sps) corals will be glued in the reef. You can watch as this reef becomes a Small polyp coral reef.

NOTICE HOW LARGE SOME OF THE SOFT CORALS HAVE BECOME. YOU CAN LOOK BACK AND SEE PICTURES OF THIS REEF IN THIS BACK ISSUE      AND THIS ISSUE
There are many pictures of this OLD MAN reef in the back issues and it is fun to start with an early issue and read about how this reef has grown as you move forward.

This reef has always housed about 75 REEF JANITORSTM hermit crabs and it is easy to see that the coralline algae has thrived on all of Aragocrete live rock. The coralline algae is now growing in layers of color, one on top of the other. The Janitors keep the other problem algae eaten so the coralline algae can thrive.
