|Yes ladies and gentlemen, this Xenia grew big enough for me to propagate her. This is one of many first cuttings I made after rolling up my selves and trying once again to get this animal ready to share with others. At this time I have about ten plugs ready to go out to a good home. All we ask is the new home provider promise us that they will make sure to propagate, and that they pass their new Bali Xenia babies to other people when their Xenia becomes big and ready for propagation.
When you are ready to propagate her you can call our office staff for assistance at 208-344-6163 and they will walk you through all the steps. It is best to call that number after 4 p.m. Mountain Time.
You can cut the xenia to pieces as small as one polyp or you can make bigger pieces depending on how fast you want them to grow. I find the smaller the cutting the faster they grow. We do have Xenia propagation articles that you can look up in our site map or search engine.
We use rubber bands to secure bridal veil netting over the Xenia cuttings. The netting should be pulled down tightly because the Xenia can shrink and it may work itself loose if the netting is not tight enough. The fresh cuttings should be placed in the part of the tank that has very strong water movement. If there is not sufficient water movement stagnant water will collect next to the bubbles under the netting. When this happens the Xenia are often attacked by bacteria.
I would like to add that I do use the smaller holed netting for this animal, and I remove the netting in one week. I find that if I use the wider holed netting, such as I use on the other Xenias, some of the cuttings will simply escape and be lost in the tank.
I place the new babies that are under the netting close to the current, and higher up close to the top of the tank. The freshly cut mother colony stalk will show polyps growing back within the first week. Most importantly, do not forget to add an additional dose of Sea Chem Reef Plus. Also remember once you open the bottle of Sea Chem reef plus it needs to remain refrigerated.
FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS WE HAVE WORKED VERY HARD TO PURCHASE, TRADE, AND SAVE AS MANY TYPES OF CORALS AS WE CAN.
We are having a special on all of the coral cuttings. WHEN YOU PURCHASE 5 AT THE REGULAR PRICE OF $100 WE WILL GIVE YOU TWO FREE CORALS!. We will continue to provide the most current data on reef farming for both education and profit.
Sometimes I forget how fun it can be to watch the Reef Janitorstm as they go about their duties. It is important to have the mixture of crabs and snails custom picked for your reef aquarium. Both Leonel and Brian are experts in algae control. You can be sure that they will choose the right mixture from GARF's extensive collection of algae eaters.
The GARF staff knows that each aquarium is different and they will ask about the size, lighting, and age of your reef. Summer is the most important time to add extra janitorstm because there is more light and the reef will be a bit warmer. When you order any Reef Janitor pactm you can pick a free coral or two pounds of GARF's FAMOUS GRUNGE LIVE SAND ACTIVATOR Reef Janitors tm or call toll free 800-600-6163.
Use this site to solve your reef aquarium algae problems, and help support our research!!!
|Many of the rare corals are offered to our members for 2 years before they are put on sale. We will soon have an E-mail list that will list the rarest color forms of sps corals and soft corals such as Xenia and Mushrooms.|
