GEOTHERMAL AQUACULTURE RESEARCH FOUNDATION
This picture truly reflects how much fun it is to watch these amazing animals do their job. This hermit is on top of my Pavona that I have had in captivity for over 7 years now. If you look closely at the picture the Pavona is glued t o a reef plug. When first placed in the tank it was no bigger than one of the petals you see forming on this animal.

This is a fast grower and a true stinger. So it is best to give her room to grow and keep her far enough away from other animals so that she can not sting them.

I think this hermit was officially king of the hill on this day, and he is challenging anyone to take him on. They are just so fun to watch. More importantly they provide the natural algae control all reef tanks need. This small polyp stony coral is very easy to propagate and Pavona is one every one should have at least one of. We have several colors and several forms of this animal. It is amazing to witness the different growing patterns that these animals will form depending on lighting, and water movement.

The animal featured in this picture is what I would consider a brood stock animal. I would make several cuttings, share them with the rest of the staff and hold onto the original mother colony. Having this animal growing on the plug gives me the flexibility to move it around easier. If I notice that its placement is causing other corals harm I can just move it by the plug without having to cut it or knock anything over.

This animal will grow flat, meaning it will plate, and it will branch or form this beautiful flower like shape. It just depends on where you place the animal, how much room it has to grow, and water movement. This animal is in my second reef, which is now almost 7 years old. Each Valentines Day LeRoy gave me an empty tank to bring forth life and to find answers to questions I could not find answers for. I still have loads of questions that are left without answers, but I will never stop seeking, I will never stop asking, I will never stop reaching, I will never stop preaching, and most importantly I will never ever stop teaching.
