GEOTHERMAL AQUACULTURE RESEARCH FOUNDATION

These two images give you a large desktop picture for your computer. Sally Jo and I are putting together a slide show that will show you how Lionel built this wonderful intricate reef using man-made rock and captive raised cuttings.

You can see the 30 gallon bulletproof reef that Leonel set up last year using two medium-size Aragocrete Sculpturestm. Lionel was able to start this entire reef using GARF Grungetm and small coral cuttings from our other reefs. The only equipment that he has used on this aquarium consists of:

3 -36 in. normal florescent lights- Lionel started this tank using two Actinic 03 bulbs and one white Actinic bulb, and he switched to two Actinic white Bulbs and One Actinic blue Bulbs when the tank was 3 months old. Lionel uses a polished aluminum reflector and a elegant plastic light rack that Norm made for him.

3 -maxi jet 1200 power heads -Lionel is now experimenting with several Mini-jet pumps because they are much smaller

1- Aquarium Systems heater

This beautiful small reef has a plenum that was used as an under gravel filter for three months before it was disconnected and used as a nitrate reducing plenum.

You can see from the above list that there was no fancy equipment used to start or maintain this beautiful reef. Lionel surprised me, when he chose a beautiful Aragocrete arch with many holes and caves, because he turned it on its side. After the Reef had been running less than a week I could see how beautiful Eddie Postma's Aragocrete arch was when it was lying on its side in this small aquarium.

The Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dependent on sales of quality products and our special Annual Events to support our eduacation programs. These projects sustain our service programs and ongoing research we provide to our Community and the World.

We are an Idaho Non Profit Organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge of reef keeping. Our live rock aquaculture research has produced many new techniques for sustaining marine life and propagating corals. We are currently growing many species of sps corals, mushrooms, etc. The Foundation is building a genetic bank in Idaho with collections from around the World. We specialize in reef janitors, and have shared this research with many people who need to control algae in land-based live rock aquaculture tanks.
