At GARF we have so many amazing opportunities and so much to be thankful for. The one that I think touches our lives most deeply is the Internship program that we have with the local high schools.
In this picture you will notice Leonel teaching two of our new interns, Jeff who stayed with us for about two months and Curtis who now is working as one of our loyal staff members. Curtis is leaving for Hawaii at the end of this Summer to continue his education in Marine Biology.
Yes my friends he was one of the few and lucky who has been excepted into the University in Hilo. Curtis is one of the future Biologists who will be speaking and fighting for the survival of our vital wild reefs.
LeRoy and I have been blessed with the chance to work with many Interns from all levels of life. Curtis came to GARF from an advanced studies program, but some interns came to us from a school for troubled youth. Several seemed to be throwing their young lives away, yet having spent a year with us, two are now on their way to being doctors. Perhaps anything is better than being a coral farmer. :).
You know, no matter how hard I try to convey our deepest appreciation for the students who have worked with us I am at a loss for words. Not only have their lives have changed, but ours have changed as well. I may never find the right words, the meaningful ones, and the special ones that could let them know how they have enriched our lives. It is great to have the opportunity to spend time with them and listen to their dreams for the future.
We miss them all and hope that one-day they will all visit us and share still further in their life's plans. We have had Interns from as far away as England, Israel, Italy, and dozens from our local community. Without you GARF would never be what it has become today. THANK YOU ALL!!!
FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS WE HAVE WORKED VERY HARD TO PURCHASE, TRADE, AND SAVE AS MANY TYPES OF CORALS AS WE CAN.
We will continue to provide the most current data on reef farming for both education and profit.
Sometimes I forget how fun it can be to watch the Reef Janitorstm as they go about their duties. It is important to have the mixture of crabs and snails custom picked for your reef aquarium. Both Leonel and Norm are experts in algae control. You can be sure that they will choose the right mixture from GARF's extensive collection of algae eaters.
The GARF staff knows that each aquarium is different and they will ask about the size, lighting, and age of your reef. Summer is the most important time to add extra janitorstm because there is more light and the reef will be a bit warmer. When you order any Reef Janitor pactm you can pick a free coral or two pounds of GARF's FAMOUS GRUNGE LIVE SAND ACTIVATOR Reef Janitors tm or call toll free 800-600-6163.
Use this site to solve your reef aquarium algae problems, and help support our research!!!
|Many of the rare corals are offered to our members for 2 years before they are put on sale. We will soon have an E-mail list that will list the rarest color forms of sps corals and soft corals such as Xenia and Mushrooms.|
