|This image shows a Montipora Reef Plug tree that contains eight plugs. This picture shows one of the easiest ways to mount a long stack of plugs by gluing the top plug to the live rock and letting the other plugs hang down below it in a previously unused portion of the reef.
After I had it mounted this reef tree, I was able to add several fragments of green polyp Montipora to the fresh glue between the plugs. This group of Montiporas will be grown together for several months. After this group of corals has grown almost large enough to touch each other, it will be very easy to break this group of plugs back apart so they can be remounted on other plugs.
This method of culture works very well when you are increasing the number of brood stock. By careful observation of the corals in your collection, you will be able to learn the optimum size of cutting that will produce the best return. We have often found that several small fragments will produce more new growth than one larger fragment.
At GARF we are able to utilize a data base of over two hundred thousand digital images when we are comparing different size coral cuttings. We hope that you will watch during the next few months as we post pictures of these Montipora Reef Plug trees.

Sometimes I forget how fun it can be to watch the Reef Janitorstm as they go about their duties. It is important to have the mixture of crabs and snails custom picked for your reef aquarium. Both Leonel and Brian are experts in algae control. You can be sure that they will choose the right mixture from GARF's extensive collection of algae eaters.
The GARF staff knows that each aquarium is different and they will ask about the size, lighting, and age of your reef. Summer is the most important time to add extra janitorstm because there is more light and the reef will be a bit warmer. When you order any Reef Janitor pactm you can pick a free coral or two pounds of GARF's FAMOUS GRUNGE LIVE SAND ACTIVATOR Reef Janitors tm or call toll free 800-600-6163.
