GEOTHERMAL AQUACULTURE RESEARCH FOUNDATION

This is one of the oldest strains of plate forming Montipora in our collection. This coral was traded for in 1997. When the coral was introduced it did not grow very fast. We used this coral to teach propgation at one of our early Coral Farming Seminars.

One of our interns that year came from Italy, and he finished cutting this coral. Marrizio returned to Boise one year later, and he propagated all of the fragments he had made one year earlier. We all noticed how much faster these new clones grew.

Now this coral grows very fast, and the colors have changed. You can see how the colony is forming several new layers of plates.
