|In this image you can see the beautiful large green Pocillopora. This is one of the corals that we will be spawning in our new greenhouse. This new Geothermal heated greenhouse is being constructed to cover the new spawning system that we have built this spring. This new system consists of two 300 gal. round tanks, and it also has four 125 gal. square tanks. There will be a series of 55 gallon tanks utilizing the same water flow. Each of these tanks is heated with a geothermal heat exchanger, and we can change the temperature by increasing or decreasing the flow of geothermal water from the well.
This new system will operate by using air lifts to move the water instead of water pumps . This month we are running experiments utilizing snails to test our methods of slowly raising the temperature of the reefs to coincide with the full moon next month. These systems will be fully stocked with adult corals by this September, and we will regulate the environment to induce the corals to spawn in December.
The brilliant orange coral in the upper corner is one of Sally Jo's Montiporas. Below that you can see her blue A. abrolhosensis, and this picture shows better detail of the many axial corallites that are growing. Sally Jo forced this coral to create new growing tips by trimming it.

Sometimes I forget how fun it can be to watch the Reef Janitorstm as they go about their duties. It is important to have the mixture of crabs and snails custom picked for your reef aquarium. Both Leonel and Brian are experts in algae control. You can be sure that they will choose the right mixture from GARF's extensive collection of algae eaters.
The GARF staff knows that each aquarium is different and they will ask about the size, lighting, and age of your reef. Summer is the most important time to add extra janitorstm because there is more light and the reef will be a bit warmer. When you order any Reef Janitor pactm you can pick a free coral or two pounds of GARF's FAMOUS GRUNGE LIVE SAND ACTIVATOR Reef Janitors tm or call toll free 800-600-6163.
