|This image shows three very distinct Zoanthids. Each of the Zoanthids will become much more attractive as they grow in the larger colonies. I've noticed several times that Zoanthids change colors in each system. They also appear much more striking when there are a large number of one color growing together.
You can see a small Zoanthid forming at the end of the purple and green colony in the middle of the picture. It is interesting to watch the different methods that different species and strains of Zoanthids use to multiply by forming clones of themselves.
Many of the small bodied Zoanthids form a runner that grows away from the colony before it forms another Zoanthid. Most of a large body, tall Zoanthids form a new clone at the base of the old Zoanthids. We have also discovered that Zoanthids grow much faster on calcium based rock such as AragocreteTM that is made with fresh aragonite gravel. We are doing research to find out what minerals, from the base they are growing on, are utilized by the Zoanthids
The Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dependent on sales of quality products and our special Annual Events to support our eduacation programs. These projects sustain our service programs and ongoing research we provide to our Community and the World. We are an Idaho Non Profit Organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge of reef keeping. Our live rock aquaculture research has produced many new techniques for sustaining marine life and propagating corals. We are currently growing many species of sps corals, mushrooms, etc. The Foundation is building a genetic bank in Idaho with collections from around the World. We specialize in reef janitors, and have shared this research with many people who need to control algae in land-based live rock aquaculture tanks.
