This is the 150 gallon AragocreteTM reef that is 9 months old. This is a view from the left end of the reef in Doug's office. This view shows how the sps frags are glued to the hand made rock. The coralline algae has covered almost 100 percent of these rocks. The sps corals are growing very fast and we are taking many cuttings from this brood stock reef. We have purchased 90 different types of sps corals in many bright colors. The large Xenia at the top of this reef were grown from 2 polyps that came from Sally Jo's reef. This Xenia is ready to cut now, and we will attach the single polyps to reef plugs with bridal veil. We are going to hang the reef plugs from fishing line attached to the VHO lights. This will allow us to put them any distance from the light. We will show you how this works as they start to grow. |
The pumps in this reef are one Gemini, 2 maxi-jet 1000s, and two Rio 1700s. The reef has 8 - 4 foot VHO bulbs and two IceCap 660 ballasts. The snails on the front glass are the large Cerith that come in the Reef Janitor TM Special. They live for years and are the most hardy snail in the hobby. We use them in all of our reefs because they eat hair algae and red slime algae. |
