This is the 29 gallon reef in December 1997 showing the growth in 5 months . The bottom picture is the same reef in July 1997. This reef has one Maxi- Jet 500 power head, two 40 watt lights that hang over and also light a 10 gallon reef. The only other equipment is a heater. This reef has never had a skimmer or any other filter. The entire reef is made up of 6 pieces of hand made AragocreteTM that were made for this aquarium. |
NOTICE HOW THE ZOANTHID REEF PLUGS HAVE SPREAD ALONG THE ARCHES
This is an example of how simple a reef aquarium can be. This aquarium is one of our most popular displays. Several invertebrates have lived in this tank that are very hard to maintain in filtered and skimmed reefs. Predatory orange soft corals are reproducing in this tank. These corals almost died in our other aquariums, but they are starting to grow and multiply in this one. Several Predatory Gorgonians that are very thin branched and delicate have lived for over one year in this reef. We have only fed this tank about once a month and the clown fish is very fat and healthy. We have had to harvest both wood's polyps and Zoanthids several times. The Xenia has to be harvested soon or it will fill 1/5 of the aquarium. We have started to drop mushroom cuttings in the front of this reef and they are growing very fast. The only thing we do to maintain this reef is change five gallons of water every two months. |
